New Home Office

my dev environment

Christmas came a bit early this year. This is my new development environment, and yes… I do need 3 monitors.

I’ve started yet another blog

In the interest of keeping my personal blog separate from work related posts, I’ve started another blog. I hope that my MD Seo Blog will be a place for me to share stories and information about life and work in the web development trenches. I’ll be using the website to share insights and information related to web development, effectively using content management systems, and best practices with regards to search engine optimization.

Another goal of mine with this website is to shed some light on the value that search engine optimization creates for both business owners and search engines. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!

Side note: I am incredibly impressed with WordPress 3.2.1 and the most recent generation of wordpress themes. I was able to setup the entire website without FTPing any files for wordpress, themes, or plugins. It almost makes me think I’ve spent the last five years learning a skill whose demand will likely decline in years to come.

My Pet Octopus

During the final lap of my circuitous route through college, I was fortunate enough to keep a Caribbean reef octopus (O. Briareus) as a pet. Today I came across some pictures that reminded me of just how interesting he was. Liggy survived 8 months in captivity before succumbing to senility common amongst male octopuses at the one year mark. He grew from a modest 22 inches to a full four feet in length during that time.

O. Briareus - Liggy The Octopus

Liggy was nocturnal and deathly afraid of me. He had one eye on me at all times – peeking out from his den deep within the live rock. I often had to pretend to be asleep before he would show himself, and even then I had to use an unobtrusive red light to get a look at him. On rare occasions, however, Liggy did come out to visit.

RIP Liggy.
